Steam School 2006

The Wisconsin Historical Steam Engine Association is conducting a steam school on October 6th, 7th, & 8th 2006 at the Rock River Thresheree show grounds located between Janesville and Edgerton WI on Hwy 51.

There will be classroom discussion as well as hands-on with full size and model engines steamed up. Topics include: Steam Theory, Steam Engine Components, Boiler Construction, Operation and Maintenance, Piping, Valves and Accessories, Firing, Handling an Engine, Boiler Water Treatment, and Emergency Procedures. Steve Butler from Midwest Locomotive & Machine Works will also be on site with demonstrations on rivets, stay bolts, and tube rolling/removal

The class fee is $50, which includes a textbook, the Steam Traction Engineers Checklist, the Case Steam Engine Manual and lunch on Saturday and Sunday. The class is open to the first 50 people that register. Pre-registration is required.

A.S.O.P.E. (American Society of Power Engineers) test will be offered, but not mandatory, after the school on Sunday for a fee of $55.

Campsites will be available at the show grounds.

2006 Steam School Information

The Wisconsin Historical Steam Engine Association Inc. is conducting its 3rd annual steam school. The class is open to the first 50 people that register. Pre registration is required.

Date: Oct. 6, 7, & 8, 2006

Place: Rock River Thresheree show grounds: located between Janesville & Edgerton at 51 East Cox Road, Edgerton, WI 53534.

Cost: $50. Fee includes a textbook, the Steam Traction Engineers Checklist, the Case Steam Engine Manual and lunch on Saturday and Sunday. There will be a meal catered in from Famous Dave’s in Janesville on Sat. evening the meal is optional and the cost is $15 per person.                  Sat Oct 7, 8am-6pm classes with a 1 hr lunch. 6pm catered meal for those who are signed up

                 Sun Oct 8, 8am-12pm classes, 12pm-1pm lunch, 1pm A.S.O.P.E. test offered

Camping: Camping is available on the show grounds, free of charge. Electric sites will be available, but are limited. Showers and bathrooms will also be available. Directions:           The Rock River Thresheree show grounds are located between Janesville, WI and Edgerton, WI on Hwy 51

                              West on I-39/I-90: take the Janesville exit Hwy 14 West to Hwy 51 North. Continue North on Hwy 51 about 5 miles to Cox Rd. and turn right. Entrance to park is about 1 mile on right.

 East on I-39/I-90: take the Edgerton exit Hwy 51 South. Continue through Edgerton on Hwy 51 to County Rd. M and turn left. Entrance to park is about 1 mile on right.
